Appleseed – Volume One: The Promethean Challenge is the first volume of Masamune Shirow’s acclaimed science-fiction manga series. Shirow provides both the story and artwork, with the original Japanese volume first published in 1985. This UK English-language edition was published by Manga Publishing in 1995 and translated by Studio Proteus.

The story follows Deunan Knute and her cyborg partner Briareos as they are brought into Olympus, a seemingly perfect futuristic city emerging from the devastation of World War III.
